Rosie is an 11-month-old Akita Shepherd mix puppy who was on the kill list from Devore Shelter on June 5th because of lack of space, even though she was listed as fully adoptable. Upon arrival in her foster home, it became apparent that Rosie carries emotional scars from her past and is deeply fearful of humans—especially men and young children. But after a few weeks, she’s shown that she’s capable of love and trust when given time, space, and understanding. She’s bonded beautifully with her foster mom, who is currently her only handler.

Despite her fears, Rosie is incredibly obedient and eager to please. She knows how to sit, give her paw, walks well on a leash, is kennel trained, and rides calmly in the car. She’s not food or toy aggressive and has a sweet, gentle energy. One of her favorite pastimes? Lounging in the water or soaking in the kiddie pool—she’s a total water baby!

Rosie gets along wonderfully with other dogs—big and small—and even does well with cats. She’s shown no signs of prey drive and has been especially gentle with 10-week-old puppies and Chihuahuas in her foster home.

Rosie needs:

  • A calm, adult-only home (no young children)

  • Preferably a female adopter or a woman-led household

  • A patient, experienced handler committed to helping her build confidence through continued socialization and trust-building

  • A secure environment where she can decompress and feel safe

Rosie is a giant puppy with a tender heart, just waiting for someone special to help her heal and thrive.

If you think you could be that person, please reach out to Shonna at shonnajenay1985@gmail.com or 760-315-6702 to learn more or arrange a meet-and-greet.
