If you are a person in search of a strong medium size dog who is: loyal, fun loving, kind, passionate, affectionate, athletic, smart, trainable, good looking and loves to fetch , Gustavo is the dog for you.  My time with him makes me think he would love the dog beach but I’ve never taken him there so this is only a guess.

I have handled hundreds of dogs for the Escondido Humane Society and Gustavo is one of my all time favorites. If I had room in my home, he would be my own. I love this guy, his love of life and his desire to be truly “Mans/Woman’s Best Friend”.

Make no mistake, he is a lot of dog, so your abilities, desires, commitment  and willingness to be a good owner i.e. enjoy and have knowledge in teaching acceptable behaviors, setting fair and consistent behavior boundaries need to be a priority.   I’ve found him easy to work with and always wanting to do what I ask of him on the leash.

I have found Gustavo to be a very quick learner, a dog who wants to please his master and a huge desire to learn and experience more. One heads up is I’ve seen him protect his food. Not around me but as other dogs walk by his kennel and this was also determined in his behavior testing.  I “personally” feel this behavior is a result of his previous tough life of just surviving on his own. I strongly believe this behavior over time will go away as he becomes part of your family and trust is established. This behavior still needs to be paid attention to and given some advance consideration when you first take him into your home and on outside trips out together.

Feel free to call one of Gus' guardian angels to discuss their buddy Gustavo in further detail. Clayton 310-567-9015  or Carli 760-888-2246.
