Otis is a 7 lb., 1-yr-old, male Yorkshire Terrier/Miniature Schnauzer mix. He has the playful demeanor of a puppy and the focus and attention span of an adult dog. He will look at you intently as if waiting for a command. Otis is very smart and focused on what is going on and is eager to interact with his person. He already knows how to sit patiently for treats, he walks beautifully on a leash, he is well-behaved in the car and house and is polite and social with other dogs.
Otis would be a great apartment/condo dog. Another wonderful thing about Otis is that his previous owners neutered him at a young age so he never picked up the territorial leg lifting that many male dogs exhibit. He is solid on his housebreaking. He will either go outside or use a puppy pad. He has a nice medium energy level and absolutely loves to go for walks and play fetch. He is not a yappy dog either. In the yard Otis will explore a bit but prefers to be near his person. He bonds easily and will climb into your lap after he gets to know you. And being a young dog, Otis enjoys all the toys Pet Smart has to offer.
Otis came into the Redlands Shelter as a stray and was there an entire month without getting adopted. The stress of being at the shelter and the constant handling from strangers was getting to be too much for a little dog like Otis who was obviously used to a loving and stable home. For this reason, Otis needs a little bit of time to warm up to strangers. Once he knows you, you have a loyal companion for life. Otis is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccines including rabies.
